European colonization of the Islamic Empire from around mdi-Nineteenth Century (C.E.), subsequent Muslim pre-occupation with decolonization, breakdown in Islamic scientific tradition of requiring a good many scientists to make Islamic (applied) astronomy as part of their studies, let to the chaotic situation experienced in modern times in the use of Islamic Calendar in different parts of the Muslim world. Due to efforts made during the last 25 years, it is now widely recognized that the Islamic Calendar ought to be internationalized in a proper manner for it to serve as an effective time management system for today's global needs. The basic ideas and concepts which form the astronomical basis of Islamic Calendar, use of Imakane Ru'yah (expected visibility) based International Lunar Date Line (ILDL) system, and the process of global implementation of a unified International Islamic Calendar are some of the issues dealt with in this book.
